I’m not a perfect parent, but I am very proud to be a part of the #CarseatFullstop campaign!
#CarseatFullstop is such an important project. We are trying to create awareness of the extreme danger of not strapping your children properly into an age-appropriate car seat. Reading and sharing a #CarseatFullstop article could save a child’s life… Because you will know the facts! Every parent that we reach and convince to strap their kids in EVERY TIME, could be a life saved! I am not a perfect parent, but I’m trying to make a difference.
Scary car seat facts I bet you did not know!
- A seat belt is designed for an adult male of over 1.5m tall. For those shorter than that; the seat belt becomes an additional danger… Unless a car seat supports and positions the child appropriately.
- Car seats reduce the risk of death in passenger cars by 71 % for infants and 54 % for toddlers!
- Currently less than 7% of South African children in cars are restrained; that is 93% of children who are not!
My Thoughts on Car Seat Safety
I am not a perfect parent and I’m not here to judge other parents for not strapping their kids in. The campaign is more to create the correct awareness. Hopefully, having the right information will help you see just how dangerous it is to not strap your child in… which will lead to you making a habit of doing it every time. I myself have driven with Zoe with just a seat belt over her. Some afternoons I had no car seat, so I quickly fetched her from school. The afternoons when the one car seat we have is in my husbands bakkie. And at the time, I thought, “What is the harm, right?”
WELL, the truth is there is a large amount of harm in it! I have been lucky in my quickly zipping around with Zoe not in her car seat, but what if I was the unlucky one to be in an accident and have her be killed or disabled?! My child dead or disabled, because I couldn’t bother to take the extra time to arrange that I had the car seat that day. How life altering would that be? This beautiful soul taken from us because her parents couldn’t be responsible enough to put her safety first. Imagine the regret you would have to live with, would you be able to live with it? I doubt I would. I have already learnt so much from the facts shared in this campaign and realized my own mistakes!
Who is the campaign targeting?
There are so many families that have things to learn, there are the parents that most definitely can afford the car seats but just do not bother to use them. Then there are the parents that know about car seats, but actually just do not have the money to afford one… Like really just are struggling and do not have money. Then there is the part of our country that are not even aware of car seats and what they are used for and the importance of it. We aren’t expecting anyone to be the perfect parent, but this might help to get us all closer.
This campaign will hopefully reach all of these with YOUR HELP!!!! Get involved by following along on social media and sharing all the blog posts and posts you see with the facts of the campaign. Tell your friends about it and help spread the word!!

It is up to us as parents to keep our children as safe as we can, they themselves do not know any better! It is so unsafe for children not to be strapped in, even a small accident can be deadly. Creating awareness is the first step. There are too many parents that do not realise the danger or understand the value in car seats, especially for older children. I was one of them and I have learnt so much just in the past few weeks of preparing for this campaign. Now, I want to help others learn too.
You have the power to save a little life. One share, seen by one person, who straps in one child, saves a life. #CarseatFullstop
